  1. Avalanche Studios founder Chrisofer Sundberg says his studio's Wii U dev kits are "collecting dust", and that Nintendo is too difficult to communicate with. Speaking to Pressfire.no, Sundberg noted the small Wii U install base, because leveling wider criticisms at Nintendo. "We actually had some development kits that just collected dust," he said. "It's a bit sad, because we wanted to do something. I think it's a cool platform, but right now it's not just up to us. We want the game to reach as many as possible." Sundberg also said it is difficult to do business with Nintendo. "Nintendo have from our point of view always been difficult to reach. You never quite know who to contact." While third-party support of the Wii U may be scant at present, Nintendo's first party software library is tipped to grow substantially post-E3. Avalanche Studios is rumoured to be working on a third installment to its Just Cause series, as well as an open world Mad Max game. 7. EA DICE technical director Johan Andersson revealed that the developer's Frostbite 3 engine, which powers Battlefield 4 and the next entries in the Dragon Age and Mass Effect franchises, does not run on Nintendo's Wii U. Responding to fan questions on Twitter, Andersson explained that DICE's Wii U experiments with Frostbite 2 had "not too promising" results, leading to the company abandoning efforts to get Frostbite 3 up and running on Nintendo's latest console. During the Game Developers Conference in March, Epic Games' Mark Rein noted that Unreal Engine 4 does not currently run on the Wii U. Rein later clarified, explaining that licensed developers could potentially port Unreal Engine 4-powered games to the Wii U, at their discretion Source: http://www.joystiq.com/2013/05/07/wii-u-frostbite-engine-tests-yield-not-too-promising-results/

  13. Sony "didn't consider" introducing an always-online requirement for PS4. That's according to Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Worldwide Studios, who told the latest issue of Game Informer. "Did we consider it [always-online]? No, we didn't consider it. The main reason being that many countries don't have robust internet connections. "It makes sense for people to have internet connections to play online games, but for offline games there are many countries that we saw do not really have robust internet... We didn't even consider that." Yoshida's latest comments follow those he made about always-online systems in February, when he said of PS4: "You can play offline, but you may want to keep it connected. "You can go offline totally," he added. "Social is big for us, but we understand there are some people who are anti-social! So if you don't want to connect to anyone else, you can do that." An always-online requirement for Microsoft's Xbox successor has been heavily rumoured ahead of the next-gen Xbox reveal event on May 21, with multiple sources saying the console will require one and more recent reports claiming it won't.
